The quartet was formed in November 2001 when 2 members of the 2001 UK Gold Medal winning quartet, Quartz, decided to take a break from quartet singing. The other half of Quartz, Dorothy and Val, recruited Gwen and Anne to fill the gaps and Vocal Zone was born!

Dorothy and Gwen have also previously won a UK Gold medal with the quartet Hopscotch.

Gwen, Dorothy, Anne and Val are all members of the award-winning Aberdeen Chorus of Sweet Adelines which has been performing in and around the Aberdeen area and beyond for over 30 years.

Contest Success

Vocal Zone made their contest debut in May 2002 where they took third place in the UK and Ireland Sweet Adeline Contest in Southport, England. Since then they have added several other medals to their tally.

In addition they have seen success at the Irish Association of Barbershop Singers Convention where they have won silver and bronze medals  and at the Coleraine International Choral Festival where they have  twice won awards.

Each year they compete in the Aberdeen and North East Music Festival where in 2016 they won two classes and were awarded “Outstanding” certificates in each class.
